Plants under open shade (2-4 hr sun) are less vigorous and produce fewer flowers. I've had these plants for three years now and spreading by seed has not been significant, but that process takes longer to show up. This vine is a bit too aggressive for a formal garden, especially in the sun. Better suited for the 'naturalistic' style, or in a shadier location. It would be a good native vine for hiding a fence.Curtishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05968308521542858800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2741465277709213773.post-82676033551401590552016-04-30T10:20:41.351-04:002016-04-30T10:20:41.351-04:00Has Clematis virginiana ended up self-sowing a lot...Has Clematis virginiana ended up self-sowing a lot for you? Or spreading by suckers? I've been tempted, but I hear it can be very aggressive in the garden.

I've had very good luck with Juniperus virginiana, both cultivars and the Southern variety (var. silicola). I garden in Tennessee.

Nice to find your blog. They are located in Hinton, WV. They have a great selection of native species for the mid-Atlantic region, particularly VA and WV natives. Their website is http://www.enchantersgarden.com/Enchanters_Garden/welcome.html
Curtishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05968308521542858800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2741465277709213773.post-91818545484143364802016-04-12T07:19:45.594-04:002016-04-12T07:19:45.594-04:00The clematis viorna is beautiful - where are you g...The clematis viorna is beautiful - where are you getting yours from?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
